Pictures for words: Matthew Richardson, Illustrator.
Illustration as an art form seems often to play second fiddle to fine art. It is in that context that the Victoria and Albert Museum in London holds its Annual Illustration Awards. The categories are: Book Cover, Book Illustration, Editorial, and Student Illustration.
This year the book cover category was won by Matthew Richardson for his cover for 'The Outsider' by Albert Camus. This seemed like a good opportunity to explore his work a little further.
His work uses a diverse range of processes and 'aims to explore how objects and images become significant through recognition, mis–recognition, and through changes in context.' He has participated in many exhibitions and has taught or lectured across the UK in various art colleges.
Here are a few examples of his work. He can be contacted directly via his website, or through his agent.
