The pop-up bar by Tom Dixon’s could be visited at the Vancouver’s Interior Design Show West last week - testing of various pieces of furniture inclusive fluoro drinks.
The British design and manufacturing company Tom Dixon installed in presentation of Vancouver’s Inform Interiors a pop-up bar at Vancouver’s Interior Design Show West with the concept to create a “dockside atmosphere” - an ambiance fitting the city’s locale.
For the IDW show’s three and a half day duration the bar offered not only fluoro cocktails, a limited number of Tom Dixon Fluoro Bags and Extremism books but was also a display of Tom Dixon’s design - like his Jack lights, Slab tables, benches and chairs as well as Fluoro stools.
The Jack light is for example an award winning multi-functional object made from plastic. It was first launched in 1994, to prove industrial manufacture was still possible in the UK: A ‘sitting, stacking, lighting thing’, as Tom Dixon describes it, created through the process of rotary moulding.
The Slab chair was designed by Tom Dixon to create a space-saving armchair. The chair is complimented by the Slab bench and the Slab dining table to form the Slab furniture collection. All of the collections furniture pieces are made from solid lacquered oak which surface is deeply brushed to expose the grain.
Another piece of furniture on display at Tom Dixon’s pop-up bar at IDW in Vancouver was his Offcut Stool Fluoro: A stool’s rounded top makes use of curved and irregular pieces of discarded wood (called wayney edges) – i.e., of material that was once considered rubbish. The Offcut stool comes flat packed and is constructed with wooden pegs and is thus straightforward to assemble.
