The Isle of Capri, a jewel in the Mediterranean, is synonymous with glamorous film stars as well as natural beauty of a rugged landscape variety. So when the need for a power station arose, it had to be something rather special to fit with its environment. To find the right architecture, an international competition was held, and that was won by Frigerio Design with its proposal shown here.
The challenge has been to interpret the the environment of Capri and then ensure the facility's architectural personality and qualities relate to it. The building has an appropriately modern feel for a facility packed with innovative technology, which is all linked to Italy's power grid through an undersea power line. The architecture itself gives an expression to the culture of managing electrical energy!
