Raising the Roof in Vienna

Attic conversions have a long tradition in Vienna. The dwelling designed by the architects Delugan-Meissl in a futuristic James Bond look is perhaps the most spectacular project of its kind since Coop Himmelb(l)au's lawyers' office in Falkestrasse in 1983. The urban quality of the present scheme can be seen in the fact that the folded aluminium sculpture formed by the new roof makes reference – in both its choice of materials and coloration – to the 1960s' office block on top of which it was built.
