Residence in Dublin
On a prominent corner lot in Rathmines – a long-established residential district near Dublin which boasts a number of listed residences – this house with double-leaf, ventilated brick facade echoes the appearance of the neighbouring, conventional brick homes. The living space directly behind the perimeter wall was situated slightly below grade in order to ensure that the two-storey building blends in with the context, particularly with respect to the cornice line. Wall-to-wall glazing in the living area is oriented to the courtyard, as are – on the upper level – the bedrooms’ openings, which are provided with ample floor-to-ceiling glazing. Structural steel sections serve as lintels and ceiling beams.
