Resistant Wooden Facade

The Elements is the name of a new building in Hampshire in the south of England. The new building with three nested blocks is arranged around a central courtyard. For the wooden facade of the family house, architects AR Design Studio from Winchester, UK, chose Kebony wood. A steel skeleton construction supports the large cantilevers and glass surfaces of the upper building levels. The combination of brick and Kebony cladding creates warm shades that reflect those of the gardens. With Kebony technology, softwoods are modified by heating the wood with furfuryl alcohol.
