Restaurant in Brighton

This sushi bar was superimposed on an existing single-storey octagonal, domed pavilion. The 3.5 m box-like enclosure was erected over the former structure, so that it now conjures the image of an Oriental lantern. The facade, hovering over a transparent glass plinth, consists of prefabricated translucent fibreglass elements and resembles a Japanese paper screen. The building is crowned by a strip of green-patinated copper panels. The eastern facade can be fully opened, allowing the internal space to extend out to an external terrace. The luminous-red soffit radiates out through a cruciform central roof light, bathing the space around the restaurant in a reddish glow at night.
