Richard Rogers’s House Splendidly Renovated with Hi-Macs by LG Hausys

Gumuchdjian, himself a long-time employee in Rogers’s office, recently renovated the one-storeyed house while preserving its characteristic design features: a steel-frame structure, a fully-glazed facade, modular interior separation and an interior design that is in keeping with the listed building requirements. The ensemble, surrounded by courtyards and gardens, comprises three detached buildings. The main house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a spacious living/dining area with an open kitchen. For decades the property was owned by the Rogers family and served as a residence for the parents of the famous architect. After it briefly came onto the market in 2013, the owners decided to donate it to the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, which has since used this cultural treasure as accommodation and an innovation centre for scholarship holders. Part of the renovation also involved recladding the two wet rooms within the lodge with the material Hi-Macs from LG Hausys. The thermally-mouldable solid-surface material complements the original design language due to its clear structure. The pore-free, jointless surface extends over walls and floors, and exudes restraint in an otherwise equally subtly expressive architectural monument. www.himacs.eu
