Roldán & Berengué
Miguel Roldán and Mercè Berengué founded their practice in Girona, Catalonia over 30 years ago. Both are professors at Barcelona Centre for Architecture, which is accredited as a training institute for universities from North America and Japan. Miguel Roldán is director there and teaches at Clemson University and Texas A&M University (USA). Berengué is active in various professional associations. Alongside schools and urban development projects such as the cultural centre/library in Caldes de Malavella near Girona, their work focuses on restructuring and redevelopment. In Barcelona, they converted a publishing house on the Rambla into a shopping centre and offices and turned an old fire station in the Poble Sec district into a fire brigade museum. The architects won several awards for their conversion of an industrial hall into 46 social housing units in the Fabra i Coats creative quarter.
