Featuring cantilevering terraces and a viewing platform between Georgia and Turkey - the border station by Jürgen Mayer H has been completed. The Berlin based office J. Mayer H Architects finished the design and construction of the Sarpi Border Checkpoint, a border station between Georgia and Turkey, situated at the shore of the Black Sea.
After commissioned J. Mayer H Architects to design an airport terminal, a rest stop and a series of train stations, the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili had asked the office to build the new border station between Georgia and Turkey.
The border station’s tower features cantilevering terraces that are used as a viewing platform, with its multiple levels are overlooking the water and the Black Sea’s coastline.
The sculpturally formed white structure houses - next to the viewing platform and the regular border customs’ facilities - a cafeteria, staff rooms and a conference room.
The intention is to welcome visitors with the building to Georgia while representing the country’s progressive development - and it sure will attract some architecturally interested tourists to this area.
