Scatter Shelf by Nendo
The Scatter Shelf by Nendo is a free standing shelf or room partition that visually works in layers. The Japanese studio Nendo designed the Scatter Shelf as a storage unit composed of 5mm glossy black acrylic shelves arranged in a grid form, stacked in three layers and slightly displaced.
Scatter Shelf is a shelving unit that is structurally strong while creating a visual effect: When viewed from the front the objects placed on the shelves appear as though they are caught in a spider's web. When viewed from an angle, the glossy acrylic face creates a series of reflections within the shelves, making the acrylic opaque. The view on the other side of the shelving unit is separate and scattered.
The diffused reflections caused by the surfaces’ shine and form, are making the Scatter Shelf appear to be transparent and creating a kaleidoscopic effect.
The Scatter shelf is on view at the Friedman Benda Gallery in New York until December 10.
