I get the impression that this house would prefer to be somewhere else but cannot afford to move. The house looks, and is conceived, by Andrea Pelati Architecte as a mysterious black box turning, its back on the village in order to create its own micro-world between it and the garden. Views in and out are strictly regulated by carefully positioned punched windows. From some of the photographs it almost looks like it is in the middle of its own country!
Apparently the narrow site in the village of Boudry has a varied architectural context, and it is this, that the architecture of the house seeks to distance itself from. There is no mistaking the close relationship with the garden however, and the more pleasant views from within of the village and surrounding hills.
