Sea Museum in Las Palmas

The 15th century fort was originally responsible for the defence of the harbour of Las Palmas. During its conversion into a new oceanic museum for the region the architects removed a multitude of later additions, once more revealing the original structure. The newly inserted elements detach themselves from the historic fabric in both an aesthetic and constructional sense and are reduced to the bare essentials. Only a few weather resistant steel elements can be seen from the outside, their patina contrasting with the massive stonework of the fort.
