A new set of plans have been lodged with Cuppertino City council for the new Apple 2 campus by Foster + Partners. Fans of the company's products are known for queuing outside their stores and round the block at product launches, but if they were to queue around this building it would be a long wait!
The latest set of plans update detail of the proposals as part of the general planning process, but the striking circular form of the building remains. I wonder if the particle accelerator was a source of inspiration? Although those buildings are normally buried underground - the metaphor is a powerful one!
The building is set on a 175 acre site and accommodates 2.8M square feet of office and R + D space, a 1000 seat auditorium, as well as a corporate fitness centre. Some 13,000 Apple employees will be located there.
