Singing in the Sun? The Agitagueda Art Festival, Portugal.
This wonderful canopy of umbrellas is, for the second year ,a beautiful signature of the Agitagueda Art Festival, recently held in Agueda, Portugal. This year however, the colours are deeper, more intense. In a paradox that only art can resolve, the installation brings both shade and a place in the sun!
The installation was created by Portuguese design firm Studio Ivotavares and gives an uplifting feel to the town. Certainly in times of crisis, the transformative power of art can not only lift the spirits, but do it with a stylish swish.
Unsubstantiated rumours that London is planning a similar installation using black umbrellas, are thought to have emanated from a disgruntled bank employee protesting at the size of bonus. We can only hope!
