A distinctive façade modelled using blue coloured vertical slats is inspired by the quality of the sky and gives a social apartment building in Paris a distinctive upward-looking character. The building contrasts with its rather dull surroundings along Rue Pierre Vaux. Atelier O-S architectes – the designers- have clearly proclaimed that good social architecture is not a thing to be apologetic about. The apartments are light and spacious and are simple in their internal layout .They are arranged to minimise communal corridor space. The building is planned around a generous communal garden and also has generous private balconies and terraces for each apartment. The building – as you would expect - meets tough environmental standards and is sustainable in the social sense too. As a project it is ambitious and delivers quality housing demonstrating that when a social developer sees beyond the ordinary it can achieve a positive triumph.
