Smoke as sculpture by Eyal Gever.
Billowing smoke and gas are beautiful in their fluidity, but are difficult to catch in a photograph. Artist Eyal Gever has found a way to capture that complexity using layers of images creating a sculpture.
The two pieces shown here are known as Nuclear Bomb and Large Scale Smoke. They are created by modelling the gas cloud then extracting renders which are printed on to 2d media and then hung in a frame.
From the side the sculptures look like layers of hanging paper, but from the front, there is a strong 3d effect, that seems to capture the fluidity of the cloud fairly convincingly.
