Station in Lisbon

At the western edge of the Expo site, a regional traffic node has been created that will link the newly planned area with the public transport network. Calatrava rerouted the railway lines on to a 14-metre-high bridge within the station. The imposing reinforced concrete structure of the street-level entrance creates an east-west link between the bus station and the forecourt area to the Expo site. The dominant feature, however, is the delicately detailed glazed roof structure over the eight platforms. This transparent hall is 238 m long, 78 m wide and 23 m high. Laid out to a square grid, the individual tree-like steel columns divide into four arched branches that form the diagonals of the squares and are linked with each other with V-shaped elements.
