Stirling performance: Office for the Hydro Aluminium company By Adamo- Faiden and Estudio Silberfaden.
When a company builds its own HQ to feature a product it manufacturers, it can sometimes produce interesting architecture. But such hubris also produces bombastic and often dull buildings. More often, the efforts should be immediately forgotten.
It is therefore fitting that we view this form of corporate advertising with a jaundiced eye, at least until it can be established that the work merits closer inspection. The industrial installation for the Hydro Aluminium company of Argentina is a small addition to a factory complex that is worth looking at.
Adamo- Faiden and Estudio Silberfaden have designed a modest, yet crisp building, that adjoins the factory complex of this Norwegian company. Its metal and glass façade, arranged in a chequer board pattern, says much about the company and its products, all of which is positive.
Clean, unfussy detailing, inside and out, suggests a business-like approach where the best values of Modernism prevail. Light, air and a sense of equality in the workplace.
It is just an office, but we can be optimistic that this billboard says something.
