Thirty years ago, hotels were almost always definable as buildings for accommodation, simply used for recuperative purposes. This situation has been fundamentally altered with the establishment of the design hotel. Today, a stay in a hotel has become the equivalent of a cultural event, aesthetic standards and enhanced services, like spa and wellness facilities, being accepted causes of price increases. Apart from luxury hotels and the many hybrid concepts of recreational and congress hotels, budget hotels are also experiencing a present-day boom. Hence the noticeable trend in attractive inner-city locations of sophisticated, design-oriented hotel projects.
