Strong, long-lasting, energy-efficient - sustainable construction with concrete

The author guides the reader through “Building in change” via “Energy efficiency in planning” to concrete as a building material. The energetic characteristics of concrete are explained as well as how these are used for the creation of specific concrete constructions, such as geothermal stakes, concrete core cooling or massive absorbers. The building pieces are generally distinguished between cast-in-place and prefabricated concrete with their respective positives and negatives. Both manufacturing methods are discussed in reference to the practical example of an “air-handling ceiling”. In conclusion, the article states that concrete is not only energy efficient but also sustainable.
