Studio Extension in Olot

Situated in the historic centre of Olot in Spain, the scheme involved the refurbishment of a 6x 5m courtyard space. Here, a studio and sauna were inserted above a gym daylighted through a flat glass roof. A small yard separates the new tract from the existing structure. The construction period was limited to two months, and it was not possible to use a crane. The load-bearing structure and the roof of the extension were erected first. The courtyard was then covered with a temporary roof before the roof light for the gym was assembled. Parallel to the construction work, the chaotic array of existing structures was removed in a number of stages, to be replaced finally by the puristic, glazed studio building.
