Studio Flat in Vienna

An entire floor of a former archive was opened up to create a new studio flat. A large new window serves as a source of light, creates visual links with the outside world and provides a means of ventilation. The 4.75-metre-high space is divided by two steel wall slabs that help retain the industrial character of the building. Parallel to these are smaller red panels. This layering effect marks the thresholds to the more intimate zones. The rooms are closed off with full-height sheets of glass, which facilitate visual contacts both internally and externally. The contrast between cool steel, the warm surface of the wood floor and the bold red of the wall panels reflects the use of the object as a studio and dwelling.
