The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is an ambitious project located in the California's Mojave desert. When it is completed in 2013, it will generate enough electricity to power 140,000 homes. It works by focussing the sun onto a steam generator tower located at the centre of each array. There will be three arrays in total and it will be the largest such project to be built so far. The photographer Jamey Stillings was there before construction started and will continue photographing the site until it is completed. Stillings started work on the project in 2010 and when it is finished he plans an exhibition and a book that promises to be mesmerizing in its beauty. Ivanpah is the project name but the enterprise is owned by NRG Energy, Google, and BrightSource Energy who have developed the technology behind the steam generator tower.
