SWAP Architektur

Christoph Falkner, Georg Unterhohenwarter, Rainer Maria Fröhlich, and Thomas Grasl (above, from left) founded their practice in 2008 in Vienna. Their work focuses mainly on buildings for healthcare, laboratories, and education as well as design computation. They have also developed a commercially available configurator for building sites and floor plans, plus a VRbased application for design presentations. The architectural firm grew out of an eponymous housing experiment the four partners conducted in 2000, in which a dozen participants swapped living spaces. To this day, SWAP’s buildings and spaces are meant to inspire people to new ways of using them and unexpected actions. This principle of open use and the team’s digital expertise were recently united for their design of the Ilse Wallentin House at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna.
