Staying on the subject of
thin steel structures, the Bat Chair reminds me of one of those odd shaped box kites that magically levitate, despite paying no attention to the concepts of aerodynamic form.
It is the third in a series of chairs by its author, Baltasar Portillo, exploring the subject of transparency. Its magic seems to lay in the way it hints at the recognizable form of a chair, whilst being something completely different.
The designer sees his piece as an extension of architectural space, or viewed the other way, as merging with the architecture. Either way users of Computer Aided Design systems will recognise it as a wire frame render of an architectural model.
