The Forgotten Space: a film by Allan Sekula and Noël Burch.

Architects have often thought about shipping containers as convenient volumes of ready-made, modular space, from which Architecture can potentially be created. A few weeks ago we featured a few of the more interesting projects here. But in their film, The Forgotten Space, the directors Allan Sekula and Noël Burch have thought about the spaces associated with the marine transportation of goods. Or, thought of another way, the places the containers pass through. The film is shot in the style of an essay and investigates the global maritime trade from the farm through a whole range of spaces occupied by the workers whose job it is to get the goods to market. It is a sobering insight into workers conditions across the world. A public showing of the film will be screened in London at the Tate Modern, Starr Auditorium on Monday the 23^rd April at 1830 – 20.30. there is a panel discussion on Tuesday the 24^th April at 18.30.Speakers include Allan Sekula, Noël Burch and Benjamin H.D. Buchloh, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Modern Art at Harvard University.
