The Panther - a soundproof couch

The Panther by Volido is a couch within a soundproofed wooden box - very quiet.
The designer Max Sanjulian of the New York based architecture, industrial design and urban planning studio Volido is responsible for the design of the Panther: A plywood couch dominated by black pyramidal sound foam.
It is a rather simple design that stands in context with Volido’s concept to “operate responsibly in the context of contemporary urban culture trying to provide a competitive combination of European design practice and American pragmatism.”
The Panther is designed as a module box that is easily assembled: One 8’x4’plywood board is cut in 2’ x 2’ modules, which are joined with finger joins.
The modules are organized in three independent self-supporting wood elements that are compressed to each other with a nylon tighten cable to work structurally: No nails, glue or screws are necessary. Pyramidal sound-proof foam is fitted in the inside as cushion.
The Panther is so easily constructed that it is featured in a new book "DIY Furniture: A Step-by-Step Guide" by Christopher Stuart of Luur Design, published by Laurence King Publishing that features a variety of objects by established furniture designers and tells you how to construct them yourself.
