Uprooted: Installation by Leandro Erlich

This installation by Argentine artist Leandro Erlich is particularly impressive. As if a crane operator had mistakenly lifted a random house in the claws of the machine, a copy of an historical building designed by the architect Friedrich Weinbrenner simply hangs overhead.

The work is called ‘Pulled Up by the Roots’ and sudden uprooting is shown by the roots hanging down through the floor of the house. Aside from the amazing look of this project, there are various meanings to it. First, viewers should remember that we are all dependent on nature despite today’s technical possibilities. Other themes are migration and the uprooting of people themselves.

The festival in Karlsruhe’s city centre will run until 27 September 2015. Source: Inhabitat Pulled-by-the-Roots-Leandro-Erlich-Exhibit-lead Entwurzelt: Installation von Leandro Erlich
