Urban roller coaster: An installation in Nantes

Photo: Le Voyage à Nantes
The sculpture was thought up and executed by the artist Baptiste Debombourg as part of the Le Voyage à Nantes trail that had been set up through the French city for tourists and visitors. In the process, Debombourg made use of precisely the objects that constitute life on typical French squares with all their bistros and restaurants, namely colourful café chairs. Lined up in long twisted rows, they formed four colourful intertwining loops, creating a dynamic impression despite being totally still.
Further inspiration for this public space installation was provided by the "Palais de l'Air", a work of art created by Robert Delaunay for the Paris World's Fair in 1937.
