Mirrored Building Envelope

One of Belgium’s largest construction companies has built its new headquarters on a former shipyard site on the river Schelde. The building was designed by Binst Architects from Antwerp. The architects designed the supporting structure, which looks like a bridge crane, to match the surroundings. It rests on massive supports on both sides of the docks, with staircases and elevators accommodated in each support. The overlying steel construction weighing 1200 t spans the water over a length of 72 m. A total of 6190 m² of usable space is distributed over two floors, with space for offices, meeting rooms and circumferential balconies. Facades and soffits form their own eye-catchers. The striking mirroring of the entire building was achieved by using Alucobond panels from 3A Composites with the Natural Reflect surface.
