Water bridge: Swimming at a dizzying height

At Embassy Gardens, a luxury residential development in London's Nine Elms district, exactly this will be possible, as a glass-cased swimming pool is to link two of the apartment blocks concerned at the lofty height of ten storeys in the air. Touted a world's first, the "sky pool" is the brainchild of HAL Architects, planner of the rest of the complex incorporating 2,000 apartments.
The pool itself is a design by Arup Associates and is to be executed in collaboration with specialists, including aquarium designers. Installing it will be a challenge in itself, as the five-metre-wide and three-metre-deep pool will have to span a distance of no less than 27.5 metres in length. Complemented with a roof garden bar, a spa and orangery, the lofty link will be the ultimate in leisure features at the residential development. As for the faint of heart, they will be able to stroll from the top of one tower block to the other along a normal sky walk parallel to the elevated swimming pool. The project is scheduled for completion in 2017.
