Wendy by HWKN chosen as the winner of the Young Architects Programme MoMA PS1 New York

external perspective

This year's Young Architects Programme run by MoMA, New York, was won by HWKN (Matthew Hollwich and Mark Kushner) with 'Wendy'. All the entrants to the competition must provide seating and shade and have certain environmental credentials to fulfil. Wendy is created from a nylon fabric that will be coated with a titania nano particle spray that can neutralise some forms of environmental pollution. The fabric is stretched over a simple scaffold structural frame. Wendy is designed to challenge traditional boundaries of architecture, and of course to make a sculptural splash for visitors to the summer music event. It will also create a dialogue with the winter dome that is currently hosting the winter warm-up events. aerial shot
