It is all well and good having a beautiful, minimalist house but life is messy! Should the house constrict what you do or how you do it, or promote diversity in the way you live?
The inside out house designed by Onedesign is remarkable in many ways, but the way it allows diverse usage is very interesting. At heart, is the wonderful central space that feels like a public workshop or community hall. It is very open and connected to the street, but tucked away are more private spaces that talk of respite from the crowd.
The house is arranged as four cores of private accommodation each loosely defining a corner of the central space. Each core has a simple, elegant steel stair that leads down to the central atrium space and up to an external terrace. In fact it looks like four tiny private houses in a public square.
Above the central space is a layer of private accommodation which is really the main living quarters. It is simply furnished and suggests the occupants of the house are more focussed on what happens in the dynamic central space than what they do in private.
