Wrapping up: Christo and Jean Claude wraps-up air!

Photos: Wolfgang Volz.

The artists Christo and Jean Claude, famous for wrapping things, have created “Big Air”. It is thought to be the largest ever indoor sculpture. That must exclude the sculptural qualities of architecture I suggest!

The installation is set inside a gasometer in the German town of Oberhasen and will be there until the end of the year. The work has a diameter of 50 metres and a height of 90m enclosing a volume of 177,000 cubic metres. It sets a record as the largest object inflated without additional support.

What is stranger perhaps is we are still talking about its size and not its artistic qualities.

Evidence, if some were needed, that size matters!
