It is fast. In yellow aluminium it is as close as architecture gets racing, and for a second, captures the thrill and blood rush of driving a ferocious beast of a car. The final Future Systems project designed by the legendary, late, Jan Kaplický opened in Modena, Italy a couple of days ago. The Enzo Ferrari Museum is actually based around the shrine that is the old house of Enzo Ferrari. The contrast and dialogue between the two is glorious. Although the building was executed by the former Future Systems man. Andrea Morgante, who now runs his own practice, Shiro Studio, it has Kaplický's prints all over it. Borrowing unashamedly from the language of motor vehicles, for architects the building will be more exciting than the exhibits, after all it is just a collection of old cars! Morgante is a talented architect and has done an excellent job. He has also reminded me of how much Jan Kaplický' is missed.
