Yolanda's house: "All I Own House" integral furniture

Yolanda is a dynamic young woman from Madrid. PKMN Architectures is a dynamic and innovative architectural office in Madrid. Yolanda has moved to the house in the Madrid suburbs that belonged to her grandmother – a small single-storey building with a generously-sized garden at the back. Pac-man Architects took on the task of transforming grandmother's house into Yolanda's house.

A house is defined by the occupant's belongings, which are generally of purely sentimental value and which lend a house an informal and cosy feel.  Every object has a story to tell, and its presence reminds us of who we are. The way in which we arrange our belongings in our homes reflects our personality. Our home thus becomes our personal refuge, full of memories of the past and things we have experienced. 

In a time in which architecture and design are characterised by standardisation and homogeneity, PKMN Architectures has come up with a flexible piece of furniture that adapts to personal needs. Plus the neutral materials used in the sliding elements can be integrated into any residential environment.

The furniture item is a hybrid, a transformable storage system that can be adapted to all objects, feelings, activities, needs and requirements of the respective occupant, in this case Yolanda. A durable, multifunctional space has come about for the restless Yolanda, one that fits her character and style. Her whole life is packed into three mobile wooden containers that are suspended from the ceiling and which can be arranged like scenery on a stage. This simple solution fulfils all the requirements and needs of everyday life on a few square metres.

Personal belongings accompany Yolanda in her activities during the course of the day, with the kitchen, bedroom, living room and studio in turn taking centre stage as if by magic, depending on the needs of the moment. The aim of the architects was to create a solution that enables space to be re-arranged to individual requirements. Flexibility, innovation, functionality and diversity characterise the new »All I Own House«.
