Young People's Museum in Berlin

The Elijah Church on Prenzlauer Berg is a listed building dating from the time of Kaiser Wilhelm II. For economic reasons, it had stood empty for some time, so that the Protestant church authorities saw themselves obliged to seek a new user. In the end, the organizers of the Museum for Children and Youth leased the church for a period of 75 years. Since many of the exhibits of the museum are created by the young people themselves, the new layout had to be flexible and allow for various uses. A two-part timber rack was inserted in the church space. Its internal structure, in the form of a series of stepped tiers, provides spaces in which children can play, make objects with their hands and explore things.
