Youth Center for Lille by JDS architects
JDS architects’ LIL/ Euralille Youth Center will built in Lille, France – a youth centered public building that intends to activate the adjacent public space.The Denmark, Belgium and Brazil based multidisciplinary architecture and design office Julien De Smedt (JDS) Architects won the first price in an invited competition to design a youth hostel, kindergarten and office space for the City of Lille.
On a triangular site JDS created a 6.980 m2 triangular public building that is comprised of three building blocks. These cantilevered blocks will house the building program of a youth hostel, a kindergarten and offices. A central triangular courtyard will slope up to a roof garden above the building block of the kindergarten and step onto decks above the youth hostel.
JDS architects intend provide with the Youth Center LIL/ Euralille an urban catalyst for the city of Lille – a center that activates the adjacent public spaces. The intention of placing three distinct programmes in each point of the triangular site, the architect aim to “offer maximum privacy while allowing them a closeness and continuity of space, organized around a garden, like a cloister of calm in the center of the city. “
After winning the competition JDS Architects signed the contract to execute their first French project for the City of Lille. The budget to complete the building is 12.150.000 Euro
