Santiago Calatrava has been appointed to design a new Performing Arts Center at Yuan Ze University, Taiwan. The centre includes an Art and Design school and the Y.Z. Hsu Memorial Hall, which is dedicated to the university's founder, Mr. Yu-Ziang Hsu. The Performing Arts Center will contain a concert hall for 1,200 people as well as a 500 seat theatre. Calatrava has explored formal themes in Taiwanese art which have inspired the dramatically curving roof of the main concert hall. The complex, part of the university, is seen as an engine to drive growth for the both the institution and the country.
