The 17th annual Micheletti Award went to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow by Zaha Hadid. It was named the most innovative museum in the fields of technology, labour and social history by the European Museum Academy.
The judges were impressed at just how focussed the museum was on its visitors, volunteers and workforce which enabled it make a real contribution to its rundown neighbourhood. These relationships commenced in the design stages and have carried all the way through to the daily operation of the facility.
Since opening in June 2011 the museum has attracted more than 1.4M visitors.
