Messestadt Riem is a new urban district on the eastern edge of Munich built on the site of the city’s old airport. Until now energy-efficient housing projects have remained the exception in Messestadt Riem. One of these exceptions is the solaR2 zero-energy housing development. Exceptional not only in terms of its energy consumption, but also because of its situation: the complex is located on the southernmost edge of the district, with an uninterrupted view over the landscape park built for the National Gardens Exhibition in 2005.
