Cultural History in Perpetual Ice: The Arc by Snøhetta

Far away, in the demilitarized zone of Spitsbergen, this Arctic depository designed by Snøhetta preserves important goods from world history.
Commissioned by Arctic Memory AS, Snøhetta have created an Arctic depository in Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen, which lies 1,300 km above the Arctic Circle, 78⁰ north of the equator and is protected as part of a demilitarized zone. The Arc presents objects from the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and the Arctic World Archive, which is devoted to the preservation of digital cultural heritage.

Don’t think, look! Snøhetta’s Path of Perspectives on the Nordkette

On behalf of Innsbruck’s Nordkettenbahn cable-car operation, Snøhetta have created a museum of perspectives featuring subtle architectural elements and linked by a walking route at 1,905 m above sea level. The installation fits nearly seamlessly into the landscape and deliberately directs visitors’ focus to the beauties of the Nordkette range.

A Picturesque Seascape: Under by Snøhetta

How would an architectural interpretation of Ivan Aivazovsky or William Turner look? With their half-sunken periscope Under, Europe’s first underwater restaurant, Snøhetta comes very close to the masters of marine painting.
