Cable car concept: A view of Chicago from a lofty height

The cable car system involved is to form a link between the Chicago Lakefront, the Riverwalk along Chicago River and the city's downtown district, and is a design by Marks Barfield Architects (creators of the London Eye, one of the British capital's main attractions), working in collaboration with Davis Brody Bond.  As such it would provide visitors magnificent views of the city's fascinating architecture from a completely new perspective – namely high in the air.  As local businessman Lou Raizin states, "The SkyLine is a prime example of how we can move Chicago from old guard to vanguard. We kept coming back to the same question: what's our unique feature? Where's our Eiffel Tower? Where's our Big Ben?"  The answer: it is the city's fascinating traditional and modern architecture that makes Chicago stand out.      And David Marks, Director at Marks Barfield Architects, adds: »The Chicago Skyline could do for Chicago what the London Eye has done for London, and become a very identifiable landmark within the city, driving tourism and prosperity«.   The project has been planned with sustainability and environmental considerations in mind and is to have a respective effect on the city.  Despite this, one question remains however, at least for those among us without a head for heights: won't the cable cars tend to swing to and fro in the brisk breezes that inspired Chicago's nickname of »Windy City«?   A film on the project can be accessed here.
