The End of a Long Series: Red House by 31/44 Architects

The house, which features three living spaces and an open ground level, is small but excellent: a central inner courtyard and a small back yard bring natural light into the long house without disturbing residents’ privacy. When visitors enter the house, a short stairway leads down into the kitchen and living room. Green plants in the inner courtyard enliven the interior. A fireplace has been installed in the concrete plinth of the chimney, and an elegant wooden staircase goes upstairs to the bedrooms.
The project was commissioned by the London real-estate developer Arrant Land and is currently for sale. Arrant Land, which is operated by Duncan Blackmore, sees the particular architecture of this little house as a test for larger projects. Blackmore hopes to extend the classical remit of traditional project developers.
