The exhibition Changing Conditions at the House of Architecture in Graz looks at the 30-year history of Norwegian architecture studio Snøhetta. Along with its headquarters in Oslo, the office is represented internationally with branches in Paris, Innsbruck, New York, Hong Kong, Adelaide and San Francisco.

The leitmotif of the exhibition is the message that sophisticated architecture and questions of social and ecological sustainability need not be in juxtaposition, but that embracing problems can contribute to the strong design-based expression of projects. Selected projects show the wide range of the studio’s works, which can be found in metropolitan areas as well as natural alpine landscapes.
From object and product design to architecture and urban planning – the exhibition presents great diversity with respect to fields of activity. Along with completed structures, projects currently in the planning phase are depicted by means of visualizations, plans, models, drawings, material samples and videos.

Thanks to their transdisciplinary, holistic approach, the Snøhetta team provide often-surprising designerly responses to ecological and topographical conditions, social aspects and cultural or economic challenges. The connection with culture and art, the Norwegian landscape and the exploration of traditional artisanship combined with modern digital technology characterize the creative processes at the studio. As a team, Snøhetta stand out with their broad expertise in the application areas of architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, product design, graphics, digital design and art.

With this exhibition, Snøhetta offer us a look inside the studio, the workshop and the “Snøhetta universe”, thereby showing us the connections among people, processes and projects.
