House in Minamituru-gunn

This abstract house contrasts starkly with the rural setting. The site, located near Mount Fuji, provides the clients with dramatic views of the alpine silhouette. But the young family also wanted spaces shielded from the street and the scattered neighbouring residences, so now a wall surrounds the garden, and a balustrade shields the terrace on the upper level. Two transparent bands of acrylic glass keep the elements at bay. The large-format facade boards reflect very little light and dissolve the boundary between the inside and outside. Living spaces are wrapped around the building core; from each area a sliding door leads outdoors. The facade’s seemingly solid bands conceal a lightweight steel frame.
