Korteknie Stuhlmacher Architecten
Mechthild Stuhlmacher studied music in Stuttgart, followed by architecture from 1992–1999 at Delft University of Technology. In 2001, she and fellow student Rien Korteknie founded their joint practice in Rotterdam. From their very first project, the experimental timber construction project Parasite Las Palmas in Rotterdam, the studio has pursued a holistic, sustainable approach. Special attention is given to materials and construction in conjunction with the landscape and specific cultural and spatial context. Design work usually begins with the interiors, which are just as important for the architects as the facades. The international team of currently 15 people is dedicated to construction and research projects of varying sizes and complexity. Their work has increasingly focused on the refurbishment of public buildings, such as the Cadix school campus in Antwerp.
