The Scope of Lighting Design

The essential lighting concept and the quality of illumination are the fundamental elements of lighting design. This is just as relevant for internal as for external lighting schemes. While the formal expression and technical aspects are important, they should not be allowed to dominate the creative idea behind the design. Light designers must be capable of employing a continually and swiftly developing range of equipment and technologies in order to achieve their ideas and to manifest the objectives of each and every project. The article presents the principles and procedures of lighting design and considers in detail two interior projects created by the author in Munich and Zurich.
