Cross Laminated Timber

For their own residential house in Kronau in the Upper Palatinate, architect Miriam Lebok of architectural office Lauer + Lebok and engineer Michael Bender decided on a new building in cross laminated timber style, based on the Klimaholzhaus by Lignotrend. This is a complete system of individually-configurable solid wood construction elements for walls, ceilings and roofs. The new building in Kronach was constructed entirely from these load-bearing components, with the basement concreted. Inside, the elements largely have a light, exposed wood surface. The floor area of the house, which is organised according to the split-level principle, is 8.5 × 12.4 m with a living area of 170 m2. Thanks to large-dimensioned elements – the wall sections for example are 8 m high – an open floor-plan could be realised across all floors.
